LEXMARK CARD AUTHENTICATION Readme for version 5.4.15 1. OVERVIEW This Readme file pertains to the current release of the LEXMARK CARD AUTHENTICATION application. Lexmark Card Authentication is an embedded solution that can be installed on printers that support the Lexmark Embedded Solutions Framework (eSF). Card Authentication locks out the printer until a user authenticates with a badge. It secures access to the printer using a user-defined security server or another printer as a server. 2. REQUIREMENTS a. A printer that supports eSF v6.x or higher applications. Supported eSF printers include: * CS720 * Required firmware level: CB.030.036 or later * CS820 * Required firmware level: YK.030.036 or later * CS92x * Required firmware level: CSTMH.040.055 or later * CX720 * Required firmware level: ATL.030.036 or later * CX820 * Required firmware level: PP.030.036 or later * CX825 / CX860 * Required firmware level: PP.030.036 or later * CX92x * Required firmware level: CXTMH.040.055 or later b. Memory: The printer must have a minimum of 256MB of RAM. c. License: This application requires an electronic license. To obtain a license, go to www.lexmark.com, and then click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. d. Card reader and driver: This application requires a card reader and an appropriate driver for card login. To obtain these items, go to www.lexmark.com, and then click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. 4. LIMITATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY OF THE RELEASE a. The card reader and driver are sold separately. To purchase the card reader, go to www.lexmark.com, and then click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. b. The maximum number of client printers that can be registered is 23. c. Users must register with a badge through a card reader to use a printer. If a different card reader model is used, then it may not recognize the badge. Either use the same card reader model, or register the card again when prompted. d. Validating a badge in the backup or client is not possible while the master is updating firmware. Either wait until the master printer reboots, or wait until the update is completed. e. Logging in to a printer using Card Authentication is not needed to perform host-based printing. f. Login Screen Text is limited to 256 characters. Text that is more than 256 characters does not show properly on the screen. g. If multiple network accounts are configured under Security settings and the application is configured to use the Address Book in LDAP Settings, then in alphabetical order, the top item is the selected account. h. When Compatibility View in Internet Explorer® is enabled, the configuration page for the application may not show properly. For best results, disable Compatibility View. i. If public permissions of copy and fax functions are changed, then the configuration page for the application must be saved again. This action applies only if Allow Copy Without Login or Allow Fax Without Login settings are enabled before changing the permissions of those functions. j.
