Understanding the Fax Setup menu

The Fax Setup menu can be accessed from the Fax Mode menu as well as from the Setup menu. For more information on the Fax Mode menu, see Understanding the Fax Mode menu.

To access the Fax Setup menu using the Setup menu:

  1. From the control panel, press Up arrow button orDown arrow button repeatedly until Setup is highlighted.

  2. Press Select button.

  3. Press Up arrow button orDown arrow button repeatedly until Change Fax Default Settings is highlighted.

  4. Press Select button.

  5. After changing values, press Back button to save your selections as the default settings.

Understanding the Phone Book menu

You can

Name Search

Search for contacts or add contacts to your phone book.

Phone Number Search

Search for phone numbers or add phone numbers to your phone book.

Add Entry

Add a name and a fax number. The printer automatically assigns a new entry a Speed Dial number.

Note: Enter a name and a fax number in the provided fields using the keypad numbers. Spell out a name using the numbers associated with each letter as you would on a telephone or cell phone.

Group Search

Search for a previously defined group and add it to a fax list.

Add Group

Create a Group Name and select previously defined names to be added to the group.

Print List

Print the contents of your phone book.


Understanding the History and Reports menu

You can

View History on Screen

  • View a list of fax activities—whether a fax was sent or received, followed by the date, time and fax number (if provided by sender).

  • Redial a fax number, or choose to add the number to your phone book or list of blocked fax numbers. You can also clear all fax history.

Print Sent History

Print a history of all faxes sent

Print Received History

Print a history of all faxes received.

View Pending Faxes

  • View a list of faxes that have not yet been sent.

  • Cancel pending fax jobs.

Report

Determine when to print a fax activity report. You can choose to print manually or after every 40 fax jobs.

Print Fax Activity History

Print a report detailing the last 40 faxes sent and received.

Confirmation

Determine when to print a report of a fax transmission. You can choose to print:

  • Every time a fax is sent, successfully or not

  • Only if there is a transmission error

  • Not at all

You can

Ring Volume

Set the ring volume to off, low, or high.

Pickup On

Choose to receive a fax after the first, second, third, or fifth ring.

Distinctive Ring

Set the ring pattern to any ring, a single ring, a double ring, or a triple ring.

Auto Answer Schedule

Specify a schedule for Auto Answer to turn on or off.

Fax Forward

Choose:

  • Not to forward faxes. The printer will print all received faxes.

  • To print a copy of a received fax and forward the call to a number you choose.

  • To Forward a received fax without printing a copy of the fax.

Manual Pickup Keycode

Set the manual pickup code so you can choose to receive an incoming fax even if the printer is set to ignore the call, such as when Auto Answer is turned off.

The default manual pickup keycode is *9*.

Caller ID Pattern

Choose from one of the following patterns available based on the country or region you selected during initial setup:

  • Pattern 1 (FSK)

  • Pattern 2 (DTMF)

If phones in your country use two detection patterns, call your telecommunications company to determine its prescribed pattern.


Understanding the Fax Printing menu

You can

If Too Big

Choose to print a fax that is too big for the paper loaded in the printer by fitting it into a page, or using two pages.

Fax Footer

Choose whether or not to print identifying information at the bottom of each page of a fax.

2-Sided Print

Choose to print received faxes on one or both sides of a sheet of paper.

Paper Handling

Change settings related to the loading of paper in the paper tray or trays. For more information, see Understanding the Paper Handling menu.


Understanding the Dialing and Sending menu

Your Fax Number

Enter your fax number by using the keypad. This number is shown on the cover page of outgoing faxes.

Your Fax Name

Enter the name of the printer by using the keypad. This name is shown on the cover page of outgoing faxes.

Cover Page

Choose whether or not to send a cover page with the outgoing fax.

Color

Choose to send a fax in color or black and white.

Quality

Choose a copy quality: Standard, Fine, Superfine, or Ultrafine.

Lighter/Darker

Adjust the brightness of a copy.

Dial Method

Choose a dialing method: Touch-Tone, Pulse, or Behind PBX (Dial Tone Detect Off).

Redial Time

Set the length of time (1–8 minutes) before redialing.

Redial Tries

Set the number of redial attempts (zero through five times).

Dial Prefix

Choose to enter a dial prefix for accessing an outside line or making national or international direct calls.

Dial Volume

Set the dial volume to off, low, or high.

Scan

Choose to scan a document you want to fax before or after you dial.

Max Send Speed

Choose a maximum speed (in bits per second or bps) for sending faxes.

Auto Fax Conversion

Choose to automatically convert your document to a digital image ready for sending.

Error Correction

Choose to turn error correction on or off.

Original Size

Specify the size of the document being sent.


Understanding the Fax Blocking menu

Block List

Choose to turn on or off your list of blocked numbers. You can include up to 50 numbers in your Block List.

Block No-ID

Choose to block incoming calls that do not provide Caller ID information.

Blocked Fax Name Search

  • Search a name in your Block List.

  • Edit a blocked name by pressing menu button.

Blocked Fax Entry Number Search

  • Search a number in your Block List.

  • Edit a blocked number by pressing menu button.

Blocked Fax Add Entry

Add entries to your Block List by using the control panel and keypad buttons.

Print Blocked Fax List

Print the contents of your Block List.
