Understanding printer messages

When Manual Feeder appears on the display, it refers to the multipurpose tray, which is also referred to as the multipurpose feeder.

Change <src> to <custom type name>

You can change the current paper source for the remainder of the print job. The formatted page will print on the paper loaded in the selected tray. This may cause clipping of text or images. Try one or more of the following:

Disk Corrupted

The printer attempted to recover a disk, but was not able to do so. Format Disk appears. Press the select button to reformat the disk.

Note: Reformatting the disk deletes all the files currently stored on the disk.

Insert tray <x>

Insert the specified tray into the printer.

Remove all color supplies

The printer is set for Color Lock Out printing in the Config menu. Try one of the following methods:

Remove paper from standard output bin

Remove the stack of paper from the standard exit bin.

Remove packaging material, check <area name>

  1. Remove all packing material from the printer.

  2. Make sure the fuser, transfer module, trays, and supplies are installed correctly.

  3. Press the up or down arrow button until Show Areas appears, and then press the select button.

Securely clearing disk space

The printer hard disk wiping process needs to recover. The message clears when all blocks are cleared.

Restore Held Jobs?

Some held jobs were not restored

Press the up or down arrow button until check markContinue appears, and then press the select button to delete the specified job.

Unsupported disk

An unsupported printer hard disk has been installed. Remove the unsupported device, and then install a supported one.

Unsupported mode, unplug and change mode

Make sure that the camera is in a valid mode for PictBridge.

Unsupported USB hub, please remove

Remove the unrecognized USB hub.

Unsupported USB device, please remove

Remove the unrecognized USB device.

31.yy Missing or defective <color> cartridge

The specified toner cartridge is either missing or not functioning properly.

32.yy <Color> cartridge part number unsupported by device

Remove the specified toner cartridge, and then install a supported one.

34 Short paper

Try one or more of the following:

35 Insufficient memory to support Resource Save feature

Try one or more of the following:

37 Insufficient memory to collate job

Try one or more of the following:

37 Insufficient memory, some held jobs were deleted

The printer deleted some held jobs in order to process current jobs.

Press the up or down arrow button until checkmarkContinue appears, and then press select button to clear the message.

37 Insufficient memory, some held jobs will not be restored

The printer was unable to restore some or all of the confidential or held jobs on the printer hard disk.

Press the up or down arrow button until checkmarkContinue appears, and then press select button to clear the message.

38 Memory full

Try one or more of the following:

39 Complex page, some data may not have printed

Try one or more of the following:

51 Defective flash detected

52 Not enough free space in flash memory for resources

Try one or more of the following:

54 Network <x> software error

54 Standard network software error

Try one or more of the following:

55 Unsupported option in slot <x>

<x> is a slot on the printer system board.

Try one or more of the following:

  1. Turn the printer power off.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  3. Remove the unsupported option card from the printer system board.

  4. Connect the power cord to a properly grounded outlet.

  5. Turn the printer power back on.

56 Parallel port <x> disabled

56 Serial port <x> disabled

56 Standard USB port disabled

Try one or more of the following:

57 Configuration change, held jobs were not restored

Press the up or down arrow button until checkmarkContinue appears, and then press the select button to clear the message.

58 Too many disks installed

  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  3. Remove the extra disks.

  4. Connect the power cord to a properly grounded outlet.

  5. Turn the printer back on.

58 Too many flash options installed

Too many optional flash memory cards or too many optional firmware cards are installed on the printer.

Try one or more of the following:

58 Too many trays attached

  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    Note: Optional trays lock together when stacked. Remove stacked trays one at a time from the top down.
  3. Remove the additional trays.

  4. Connect the power cord to a properly grounded outlet.

  5. Turn the printer back on.

59 Incompatible tray <x>

Only options designed specifically for this printer are supported.

Try one or more of the following:

61 Remove defective hard disk

62 Disk full

63 Unformatted disk

If the error message remains, the hard disk may be defective and require replacing.

80.xx Fuser near life warning

80.xx Fuser life warning

80.xx Replace fuser

Replace the fuser using the instruction sheet that came with the replacement part.

80.xx Fuser missing

Reinsert the fuser into the printer.

82.yy Replace waste toner box

The waste toner box is full.

  1. Replace the waste toner box using the instruction sheet that came with the replacement part.

  2. Clear the paper path.

82.yy Waste toner box nearly full

Order a replacement waste toner box immediately.

82.yy Waste toner box missing

Reinsert the waste toner box into the printer.

83.xx Transfer module near life warning

83.xx Transfer module life warning

83.xx Replace transfer module

Replace the transfer module using the instruction sheet that came with the replacement part.

83.xx Transfer module missing

Insert the transfer module into the printer.

84.xx <color> photoconductor low

  1. Press the up or down arrow button until check markContinue appears, and then press the select button.

  2. Order a replacement photoconductor immediately. When print quality is reduced, install the new photoconductor using the instruction sheet that came with the replacement part.

84.xx <color> photoconductor nearly low

  1. Press the up or down arrow button until check markContinue appears, and then press the select button.

  2. Order a replacement photoconductor immediately. When print quality is reduced, install the new photoconductor using the instruction sheet that came with the replacement part.

84.xx Replace <color> photoconductor

Replace the specified color photoconductor using the instruction sheet that came with the replacement part.

84.xx <color> photoconductor missing

Insert the photoconductor into the printer.

88.yy <color> cartridge low

When this message appears, the toner is low. When the print becomes faded, replace the specified toner cartridge.

To clear this message and continue printing, press the up or down arrow button until check markContinue appears, and then press the select button.

88.1x <color> cartridge nearly low

When this message appears, the toner is low. When the print becomes faded, replace the specified toner cartridge.

To clear this message and continue printing, press the up or down arrow button until check markContinue appears, and then press the select button.

88.2x Replace <color> cartridge

  1. The toner cartridge is exhausted. Replace the specified toner cartridge.

    Note: To learn how to replace a toner cartridge, press the up or down arrow until Show Me appears, and then press the select button.
  2. Clear the paper path to clear the message and continue printing.
