Printing a document

  1. From the printer control panel Paper menu, set the Paper Type and Paper Size to match the loaded paper.

  2. Send the print job:

    For Windows users
    1. With a document open, click File > Print.

    2. Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup, and then adjust the settings as needed.

      Note: To print on a specific size or type of paper, adjust the paper size or type settings to match the loaded paper, or select the appropriate tray or feeder.
    3. Click OK, and then click Print.

    For Macintosh users
    1. Customize the settings as needed in the Page Setup dialog:

      1. With a document open, choose File > Page Setup.

      2. Choose a paper size or create a custom size to match the loaded paper.

      3. Click OK.

    2. Customize the settings as needed in the Print dialog:

      1. With a document open, choose File > Print.

        If necessary, click the disclosure triangle to see more options.

      2. From the Print dialog and pop-up menus, adjust the settings as needed.

        Note: To print on a specific paper type, adjust the paper type setting to match the loaded paper, or select the appropriate tray or feeder.
      3. Click Print.

Printing on a paper size not listed in the printer menus

To print on other sizes, set the Paper Size for the specified tray to Universal, and then specify all of the following settings for your paper:

Note: The smallest supported Universal size is 148 x 210 mm (5.8 x 8.3 in.); the largest is 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 in.).
Specify a unit of measurement
  1. On the home screen, touchmenu button.

  2. Touch Paper Menu.

  3. Touch Universal Setup.

  4. Touch the right or left arrows to select Units of Measure and the correct units of measure.

  5. Touch Submit.

    Submitting Selection appears, followed by the Universal Setup menu.

Specify the paper height and width

To define a specific height and width measurement for the Universal paper size in the portrait orientation:

  1. From the Universal Setup menu, touch Portrait Width.

  2. Touch the arrows to select the paper width setting.

    Submitting Selection appears, followed by the Universal Setup menu.

  3. Touch Portrait Height.

  4. Touch the arrows to select the paper height setting.

    Submitting Selection appears, followed by the Universal Setup menu.

Specify the feed direction

Feed direction appears only if the paper can be loaded in either direction. If this is the case, then you can define the feed direction.

  1. From the Universal Setup menu, touch Feed direction.

  2. Touch Short edge or Long edge depending on how you would like the print to appear on the page.

  3. Load the paper according to your feed direction selection.

  4. Touch home screen to return to the home screen.

Printing on a different size or type of paper

The Paper Size setting is determined by the position of the paper guides in the tray for all trays except the multipurpose feeder. The Paper Size setting for the multipurpose feeder must be set manually.

The factory default Paper Type setting is Plain Paper. The Paper Type setting must be set manually for all trays that do not contain plain paper.

  1. On the home screen, touch menu button.

  2. Touch Paper Menu.

  3. Touch Paper Size/Type.

  4. Touch the right and left arrows to select the paper size, type, and tray.

  5. Touch Submit.

  6. Touch home button to return to the home screen.
