On the Scan tab, you can:

What is being scanned?

Select the option closest to the type of image you are scanning. The settings are optimized based on the selection:

  • Photo
  • Mixed Graphics and Text
  • Magazine or Newspaper
  • Black Text

How will the scanned image be used?

Choose the way the scan will be used.The resolution and other settings are optimized based on the selection:

  • To be printed
  • To be viewed on monitor/Web page
  • To be faxed
  • Note: Use the To be faxed option only when you have a fax application setup.
  • To be edited (OCR)

Send scanned image to:

Choose where to send scanned images, such as to file, to the Clipboard, or to an application. See Choosing where to send scanned images.

Note: Some applications accept only black scans.

Prompt for multiple pages

Scan multiple pages. When you select Prompt for multiple pages, you can finish multiple-page scanning before sending the output to an application. You are prompted to add the next page after each page is scanned. If you still have more pages to scan, click Scan. If the multiple-page scan is complete, click Done.

Deselect Prompt for multiple pages if you are scanning only a single item.

Note: Some applications do not let you scan multiple items at once.
