Understanding the two-sided printing function

The printer has a built-in duplex unit that lets you print on both sides of the paper automatically. This function is also known as two-sided printing or duplexing.

Note: Automatic two-sided printing works only with plain paper in letter and A4 sizes. If you want to print two-sided documents on another size or type of paper, use the manual method.

To print a two-sided copy:

  1. With a document open, click File stepPrint.

  2. Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup.

  3. Click the Advanced tab.

  4. From the 2-Sided Printing area, select 2-Sided printing.

  5. A drop-down box features Automatic and Manual options. Select Automatic when you are printing on plain paper in letter or A4 sizes. If you are using a custom size or type of paper, select Manual.

  6. Select either Sideflip or Topflip. Sideflip is the setting most often used.

  7. The “Extend dry time” option allows extra drying time between sides when you are printing on both sides of the paper. The normal drying time of the Automatic 2-Sided Printing option affords enough time for the ink to dry on supported paper types in average air humidity. In conditions of high humidity, or if you find that the normal drying time does not allow the ink to dry completely, you should select Extend dry time.
