Overview
A network is a group of computers or computer systems linked together for the purpose of sharing resources, such as All-In-Ones, files, or an Internet connection.
Your All-In-One is a network-capable All-In-One and can be networked in one of three ways:
- Using a Lexmark print server
- Using the peer-to-peer method
- Using the point and print method
Setting up your network with a Lexmark print server
All-In-One has not been attached to my computer
If you are connecting your All-In-One to a Lexmark print server, and your All-In-One has not previously been attached to your computer, follow these steps.
- Do not insert any CDs that came with your Lexmark products yet.
- Connect the USB cable to the All-In-One and the Lexmark print server.
- Connect the power cords to both the All-In-One and Lexmark print server.
- Make sure the All-In-One and the Lexmark print server are on.
- Attach the print server to the network using an Ethernet cable.
- Insert the All-In-One CD, and follow the instructions on your computer screen.
Printer previously attached to my computer
If you are connecting your All-In-One to a Lexmark print server, but your All-In-One is connected to your computer, follow these steps.
Windows 98/Me

- Connect your print server power cable and ethernet cable.
- Disconnect the USB cable that connects your All-In-One to your computer from the computer.
- Connect the USB cable that you disconnected from the computer to the Lexmark print server.
- Connect your print server and your computer to the ethernet switch/hub using two ethernet cables.
- Click Start
Settings Printers.
- Right-click the Lexmark 7100 Series All-In-One icon, and then select Properties.
- Click the Details tab.
The port name for your All-In-One is 7100_Series_123456, where 123456 is replaced by the last six characters of your MAC address.
The MAC address is printed on the bottom of your print server.
- If your port exists, select 7100_Series_(last six characters of your MAC address), and then click OK. You are finished.
- If your port does not exist in the list, continue.
- Click Add Port from the Details tab.
- Select 7100 Series Port from the list, and then click OK.
- Follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete installation.

- Connect your print server power cable and ethernet cable.

- Connect the USB cable that you disconnected from the computer to the Lexmark print server.
- Connect your print server and your computer to the ethernet switch/hub using two ethernet cables.
- Click Start
Settings Printers (or Printers and Faxes).
- Right-click the Lexmark 7100 Series All-In-One icon, and then select Properties.
- Click the Ports tab.
The port name for your All-In-One is 7100_Series_123456, where 123456 is replaced by the last six characters of your MAC address.
The MAC address is printed on the bottom of your print server.
- If your port exists, select 7100_Series_(last six characters of your MAC address), and then click OK. You are finished.
- If your port does not exist in the list, continue.
- Select Local Port, and then click New Port.
- Select 7100 Series Port from the list, and then click OK.
- Follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete installation.

Setting up your network with the peer-to-peer method
With this method, the All-In-One driver is fully installed on each client computer. Network clients retain control of driver modifications. The client computer handles the print job processing.
If the host computer is Windows 98 or Windows ME, all clients must be either Windows 98 or Windows Me.
If the host computer is Windows 2000 or Windows XP, all operating systems are acceptable clients.
- Follow the instructions on the Lexmark 7100 Series Setup sheet to install the hardware and software on the host computer.
- Make sure the host computer has printer sharing enabled. For help, see Enabling printer sharing.
- From the client computer, insert the All-In-One software CD.
- Follow the instructions on the client computer screen.
- Select The printer is on a network when asked how the All-In-One is connected to your computer.
- Select Peer to Peer when asked how the All-In-One is connected to the network.
- Follow the instructions on the computer screen to complete the installation on this client computer.
- Repeat steps 3 through 7 for each of the client computers.
Setting up your network with the point and print method
With this method, the All-In-One driver is partially installed on each of the client computers networked to the host computer. The host computer controls driver modifications and handles the print job processing.
- Follow the instructions on the Lexmark 7100 Series Setup sheet to install the hardware and software on the host computer.
- Make sure the host computer is shared. For help, see Enabling printer sharing.
- From the client computer, double-click Network Neighborhood, My Network Places, or My Network (depending on your operating system).
- Find the name of the host computer (server) and look for the shared name you assigned to the All-In-One. For help, see Locating the All-In-One from the client computer.
- Right-click the All-In-One icon, and then select Open, Install, or Connect (depending on your operating system).
Enabling printer sharing
Before you can share your All-In-One, you must make sure that Printer Sharing is enabled on the host computer.
Sharing the All-In-One from the host computer
- Click Start
Settings
Printers (or Printers and Faxes).
- Right-click the Lexmark 7100 Series All-In-One icon.
- Click Sharing.
- Click Shared As, and then type a distinctive name such as 7100Series.
- Click OK.
