Jams and misfeeds troubleshooting

Find the problem in the following table that best matches the problem you are having:

Paper jams

Did the jam occur in the paper support?

Have the printer automatically eject the paper:

  1. Press the power button to turn the printer off.
  2. Press to turn the printer back on. The paper is ejected from the printer.

Did the printer eject the jammed paper after trying the solution above?

If the printer does not eject the paper, manually remove the paper:

  1. Press the power button to turn the printer off.
  2. Pull the paper slowly and firmly from the printer.
  3. Press to turn the printer back on.

Paper misfeeds, skews, or multiple sheets feed

Is the paper loaded correctly?

See Load and stack paper.

Are you using paper recommended for your printer?

Use Paper sizes supported by your printer.

Are you printing more than one page at a time?

Try loading a smaller amount of paper into the printer. For help, see Observe paper exit tray capacity.

Is the paper wrinkled?

Use a new piece of paper that is straight and unwrinkled.

Paper and specialty media stick together

Are you printing more than one page at a time?

Try loading a smaller amount of paper into the printer. For help, see Observe paper support capacity.

Is the paper loaded correctly?

Make sure you load paper correctly with the print side facing you.

Are the pages sticking together on the paper exit tray?

Remove each page as it exits the printer and let it dry completely before stacking.

Are you using paper or specialty media recommended for your printer?

You can load plain paper, photo or glossy paper, coated or premium paper, iron-on transfers, transparencies, and Hagaki cards.

Printer does not feed specialty media

Is the paper loaded correctly?

Are you using a paper recommended for your printer?

Choose a paper type appropriate for your specialty media. Also, use a Paper sizes supported by your printer.

Is there a paper jam?

For help, see Paper jams.

Is your printer held or paused?

Make sure that the printer is not held or paused.
