Install the print cartridges

When installing new cartridges for the first time during setup, follow the instructions on the Setup sheet that comes in the box with your All-In-One.

After setup, you may only need to install one cartridge at a time to replace the empty cartridge, or to install the cartridge when swapping the photo and black cartridges.

  1. Remove a used cartridge.
  2. When installing a new cartridge to replace an empty cartridge:
    1. If it is a new photo cartridge, remove it from its storage unit.

    2. Remove the sticker and transparent tape from the bottom of the cartridge.

      Warning: Do not touch the gold contact area on the cartridges.
When swapping the photo cartridge and the black cartridge:
  1. Take out the stored cartridge from the storage area in your All-In-One.
  2. Remove the cartridge from its storage unit.

  1. If you are installing a black or photo cartridge, insert it in the left carrier. If you are installing a color cartridge, insert it in the right carrier.

Depending on the part numbers you use, the color of the cartridge tops may vary.
Note: You can print with either a color cartridge and a black cartridge or with a color cartridge and a photo cartridge. Extend the life of your color cartridge and improve printing speed by installing a black or photo cartridge along with the color cartridge.
  1. Snap the lids closed.

  2. Close the scanner unit. The scanner unit must be closed to start or resume a print, copy, or scan job.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to align the cartridges. For help, go to Align the print cartridges.
