Cropping photos using Auto-crop

You can crop photos to highlight certain focal points or to show only a specific portion of an image. Both the Scan and Copy dialogs have the Auto-crop function.

  1. Load paper into the paper support.
  2. Load an original document on the scanner glass.
  3. Open the Lexmark 4300 Series Center.
  4. From either the Scan tab or the Copy tab, click Preview/Edit to open the Scan dialog or the Copy dialog.
Note: Auto-crop sensitivity on the Scan dialog is turned on when Photo is selected from the "What is being scanned?" menu on the Scan tab. Auto-crop sensitivity on the Copy dialog is turned on when Auto is selected from the "Original Image Size" pop-up menu on the Copy tab. When Auto-crop sensitivity is selected, a dashed frame forms around the image in the preview area. The dashed frame defines the crop area.
  5. Make the necessary adjustments.
    • Use the Auto-crop sensitivity slider to adjust the crop area. The software determines the crop area based on the relative brightness or darkness of the image.
    • Position the pointer over the corner or side handles of the cropping bounds. Hold down the mouse, and drag the corner or side handles to extend or contract the crop area.
    • When the pointer is in the object mode (represented by a hand), hold down the mouse, drag the mouse to move the crop area, and select the part of the photo you want scanned or copied.
    • Note: The file size, width, and height of the crop area are displayed at the bottom of the preview area. Choose a preferred unit of measurement from the pop-up menu.
  6. Click Preview Again to refresh the image in the preview area.
Note: Not all changes and adjustments in the settings are reflected on the preview image when the Preview Again button is clicked.
  7. When you are satisfied with the cropped image, click Scan or Copy.

When you click Scan, only the designated cropped area is saved or sent to your application. When you click Copy, only the designated cropped area is printed.
