Print troubleshooting

Find the problem in the following table that best matches the problem you are having:

All-In-One has a paper jam

Have you tried pressing the Power/Resume button?

Press the Power/Resume button on the control panel of your All-In-One to eject the paper.

Is the paper still jammed after you pressed the Power/Resume button?

  1. Press Power/Resume button to turn off the All-In-One.
  2. Slowly and firmly pull the paper from your All-In-One.
  3. Press the Power/Resume button to turn on the All-In-One.

Is the paper lodged too far into the All-In-One for you to reach?

  1. Press the Power/Resume button to turn off the All-In-One.
  2. Lift the scanner unit.
  3. Slowly and firmly pull the paper from your All-In-One.
  4. Press the Power/Resume button to turn on the All-In-One.

Does the paper keep jamming into your All-In-One?

  • Make sure you are using paper that is designed for use in an inkjet printer.
  • Make sure you load the paper correctly. For help, see Load paper and specialty media.

Poor text and graphic quality, including:

  • Incorrect colors
  • Missing characters
  • Faded print
  • Dark print
  • Skewed lines
  • Smudges
  • Streaks
  • Unexpected characters
  • White lines in print

Are you using the correct color setting?

Adjust color settings.

Did the ink completely dry on the print media before you removed it from the exit tray?

Allow the ink some time to dry completely before handling the paper.

Is the paper wrinkled?

Use a new piece of paper that is straight and unwrinkled.

Are the print settings adjusted to the correct paper type and size?

Choose a paper type in the Print dialog, and Choose a paper size in the Page Setup dialog.

Are the print settings adjusted to the appropriate quality for the paper type?

Select a print quality that is appropriate for the paper type.

Select Quick Print for text-only documents with reduced print quality.

  • Select Normal for most types of documents.
  • Select Better for Photos and documents with graphics.
  • Select Best for highest quality photos and for documents with vivid graphics.

Are the print cartridges aligned properly?

Align the print cartridges in the Lexmark 2200 Series Utility. If you are using your All-In-One without a computer, go to Aligning print cartridges without a computer.

Have the print cartridges been properly maintained?

Follow the instructions described in Improve print quality.

Have any of the cartridges run out of ink?

Replace the print cartridges.

Have you tried changing your paper type?

Use a different paper type. Each paper type accepts ink differently and prints with color variations.

Is the paper loaded correctly?

Load your paper or specialty media correctly. See Load paper and specialty media.

All-In-One ejects a blank page after appearing to print.

Did you remove the transparent tape from the bottom of each print cartridge?

  1. Remove the print cartridges.
  2. Check for the transparent tape and then reinsert them.

Are the nozzles of your print cartridges clogged?

Clean the print cartridge nozzles.

Poor quality at the edges of the page

Are you printing beyond the minimum print margins for the printer?

Make sure your margins are set within the following minimum margin settings:

  • Left and right:
- 6.35 mm (0.25 in.) for all paper sizes except A4
- 3.175 mm (0.125 in.) for A4 size paper
  • Top margin:
-1.7 mm (0.067 inches)
  • Bottom margin:
-12. 7 mm (0.5 inches) for black print jobs
-19 mm (0.75 inches) for color print jobs

Are the print nozzles clogged?

Clean the print cartridge nozzles.

Printer does not print or respond

Do you see an error message?

See Error messages and blinking lights.

Is the All-In-One software installed properly on your computer?

If you are not sure, uninstall the printer software and reinstall it. For help, see Remove the All-In-One software and Install the All-In-One software.

Is the print job held or paused?

Check the All-In-One status.

Is your All-In-One set as the default printer?

Check the All-In-One status.

Glossy/Photo paper and transparencies stick together

Did you use the correct paper?

Use glossy/photo paper or transparencies designed for inkjet printers.

Did you properly stack the glossy/photo paper or transparencies after printing?

Remove each page as it exits the All-In-One, and then let it dry completely before stacking. Photos and transparencies may require up to 15 minutes to dry.

Are the glossy/photo paper or transparencies loaded correctly?

Load your paper or specialty media correctly. See Load paper and specialty media.

All-In-One does not feed specialty media

Is the paper loaded correctly?

Load your paper or specialty media correctly. See Load paper and specialty media.

Did you choose the correct paper size?

Choose a paper size that matches the size of your specialty media in the Page Setup dialog.

Did you choose the correct paper type?

Make sure you use specialty media supported by your All-In-One. For information, see Paper types and paper sizes supported.

Is a paper jammed in your All-In-One?

See All-In-One has a paper jam.

Is the print job held or paused?

Check the All-In-One status.

Slow print speed

Are there other applications running on your computer?

Close all applications not in use.

Did you select Best or Better as the print quality?

Select a lower quality print setting.

The higher the print quality setting the longer it takes to print. From more information, see Select a print quality.

Note: Photos or documents containing graphics may take longer to print than regular text.

Does your computer meet the recommended memory requirements for your All-In-One?

Consider purchasing additional Random Access Memory (RAM) for your computer.

Page prints with different fonts

Did you apply fonts correctly in your application?

Avoid stretching or resizing fonts in your application.

Are you using a TrueType font?

Use a TrueType font. Refer to your application documentation for help.

Is your font available in your application box?

Refer to your application documentation for help.

Paper misfeeds or pulls multiple sheets

Is the paper loaded correctly?

  • Make sure the edges of the paper are not curled.
  • Make sure you do not load too much paper. See Paper support capacity.
  • Make sure the paper guide is against the left edge of the paper.
  • Make sure the paper guide does not cause the paper to bow.
  • Make sure the All-In-One is on a flat, level surface.
  • Do not force the paper into the paper support of the All-In-One.

Did you use the correct paper?

Use paper that is designed for inkjet printers.

The All-In-One is not communicating with the computer.

Is the power supply pushed all the way into the printer?

Disconnect the power supply from your All-In-One. Reconnect the power supply by pushing it all the way into the connector. For more information, see Check the cable connections.

Is the USB cable securely connected to your All-In-One and computer?

Check the cable connections.
