Scanner or copier does not respond

Is the All-In-One on?

Press .

If the Power light does not come on, see Power light is not lit.

Do you see an error message?

See Error messages and flashing lights troubleshooting.

Is the All-In-One installed properly on the computer?

If you are not sure, uninstall the All-In-One software and then reinstall it. For more information, see Removing the All-In-One software and Installing the All-In-One software.

All-In-One is scanning and copying without a pre-scan

Is the scanner auto-detecting the size of the original document?

Go to the Copy tab of the Lexmark 3300 Series Center. In the "Original Image Size" menu, select the paper size of the document you want to copy. Portrait orientation is the default for all paper types in the "Original Image Size" menu.

Scanner unit does not close

Is the scanner unit support still holding up the scanner unit?

See Closing the scanner unit.

Poor print quality at the edges of the page

Are you printing beyond the minimum print margins for the All-In-One?

Use these minimum settings:

  • Left and right margins:
- 6.35 mm (0.25 inches) for all paper sizes except A4
- 3.175 mm (0.125 inches) for A4 size paper
  • Top margin:
-1.7 mm (0.067 inches)
  • Bottom margin:
-12.7 mm (0.5 inches) for black print jobs
-19 mm (0.75 inches) for color print jobs

Is the original document larger than the paper you are using for copies?

  1. On the control panel of the All-In-One, press until Resize appears.
  2. Press or to scroll through the paper sizes and resize percentages. Choose the right paper size or percentage for the document.
  3. Press again to confirm the selection.

Poor quality from scan or copy feature

Including:

  • Blank pages
  • Checkerboard pattern
  • Distorted graphics or pictures
  • Pictures or images are incomplete
  • Missing characters
  • Unexpected characters
  • Faded print
  • Dark print
  • Skewed lines
  • Smudges
  • Streaks
  • White lines in print

Have you changed the settings in Adjustments tab in the Copy or Scan tabs?

Return the Adjustment settings to default, or adjust the brightness and contrast options according your preference.

Is the original document or image placed properly on the scanner glass?

The document must be placed face down on the glass. For more information, see Loading originals on the scanner glass.

Is the copy setting in the Lexmark All-In-One Center set correctly?

Are you copying or scanning a magazine or newspaper?

See Scanning clear images from magazines or newspapers.

Do you see an error message?

See Error messages and flashing lights troubleshooting.

Is the scanner glass dirty?

See Cleaning the scanner glass.

Is the quality of the original document or image unsatisfactory?

Try using another version of the document or image.

Is Auto-crop on?

See Cropping an image.

Are the print cartridges aligned properly?

See Aligning the print cartridges.

Have the print cartridges been properly maintained?

See Improving print quality.

Is the All-In-One out of ink?

Replace the print cartridges. See Removing the print cartridges, and then see Installing the print cartridges.
